Tofino/Long Beach [19 Jul 2005|03:47pm]

I'm planning on camping in Tofino in late August. Any recommendations for campsites? There's probably going to be a big group of us - perhaps 10 people? I've heard of Bella Pacifica Campground, but don't know any others. Do you guys have any good recommendations/websites to direct me to?

We don't have any preferences. Maybe the cheaper the better, but it doesn't really matter much.

Thanks in advance!

added boath "Frisbee golf" and "Disc Golf" to the community interests.

Know any good courses on the island? ever set up your own course and just
went for it in the bush? [yes yes, its sounds dirty] well, post about it!

[its fricken FUN!] If you feel or think i should add anything else to the
community interests drop it on here, we'll make this an interest "request" page.

Thanks muchly

Also updated from "Please stay on topic. Posts must relate to hiking and camping " to "hiking, camping and outdoor activities"
this should be good, simply for the fact it won't be so restrictive :P

i went camping by myself for six days! it was radtastic... i've made a little webpage with a bunch of the pictures i took. take a look if you're interested.

this "pack the island" name really reminds me of: "hack the planet!" from the movie hackers. sheesh.

i desperately want to go up to strathcona park's forbidden plateau for a week-long stay. the only thing i'm worried about is that i want to go alone. have any of you ever gone on a solo backpacking trip? i'd be grateful for any advice!

It's coming to yet another summer of good camping, packing, and trail blazing.

Anyone planning anything spectacular for their first adventure this summer?

About the Juan De Fuca.... [06 Dec 2004|01:20pm]

[ mood | awake ]

I hiked the West Coast Trail in the summer of 2003 with a group of my friends. On our way back to Victoria we drove past parts of the JdeF trail / trailheads and I was wondering about that trail.... it seems really close to the road. The WCT is fantastic because it is so remote.

Still I'm interested in hiking it, so, if you've hiked the JdeF trail, can you tell me:

Can you hear traffic on a regular basis on the trail?

Did you find the multiple access points disturbing to your back-country experience?

Hey, can anybody recommend some beaches on the South island that are good for winter camping?

I.e. somewhat sheltered, okay for access, and where I won't be washed away by winter storms if I should hit one or two in December.

I'm really not familiar with the juan de fuca trail beaches, so getting a recommendation would help a lot.

Hi there fellow hikers [19 Oct 2004|12:43am]

My grandma lives in Ladysmith, so any hiking I've done is around there. I took my boyfriend up to Heart Lake this summer for an overnight trip. Dude was scared by the ANTS. Anyway, I usually day hike around Holland Creek, though this summer I also went to the Folk Fest in Duncan and went up the big mountain there, Tzolhan something or other. There's a big metal cross at the top.

I don't know where the pics are, I'll post to them later.

Hikes accessible by bus routes? [18 Oct 2004|10:46pm]

[ mood | good ]

sl0th and I have begun doing weekly day hikes. As neither of us has hiked in a long time, we've started out the past few weeks by doing walks like Rithet's Bog, the Goose and the Goldstream campground, but we're getting in gear now to do some harder stuff. This week we are probably going to head over to Mt. Doug.

Anyway, my question is, since neither of us have a car and only have access to one a limited amount of the time, we are in need of some hikes around Victoria that we can access by bus -- can anyone suggest any local hikes that we could get to?
